Sonny (white) and Sniff (bay) being let out of the side pasture into the big pasture for the day. They go to the side pasture at night. That's where their stalls and feed troughs are. They get fed twice a day, just like everybody else. Then the Redneck throws out hay Panama, Gray Katie, Red Katie, Sonny and Sniff in the big pasture.

Sniff is already hollering and squealing when the haying starts. Then the race is on once my hubby opens the gates over the bridge. There is a gate on each side of the bridge.

Another throwout. I've told her story before too. She showed up very pregnant. We lived trapped her and she was spayed. The vet said she could not have had the puppies. He said they were too big for her. She's a small girl.

When my sister was here from Florida, Alley and I helped the Redneck blood trail a deer. When we got back to the house, my sister tried to pet Alley. I told her to watch out. Sure enough, Alley showed SisterS why we call her Alley Gator. She showed her teeth and grabbed my sister's fingers. She didn't hurt her, she just didn't want a stranger touching her.

Patch

Patch is one of the my throwouts. I picked him up off the side of the road where a guy was chunking dogs out of his truck. By the time I got turned around, the guy was hauling butt.

I caught 2 of the 3. Patch and Smiley. The 3rd dog ended up with some people on the road where he was thrown out. They called him Frank. He had baby blue eyes. I think Smiley is Patch and Frank's momma.

If I hadn't of been so concerned with the dogs running loose, I think I would have tried to catch that sorry person and tell him off....

I had to throw out all 8 quarts of our home canned black eyed peas. I don't know what I did wrong, but they were not canned properly.

All that hard work, right into the garbage. Lucky for us on New Year's I still had a ton of frozen peas in the freezer.

Oh well, that's it for canning peas. All peas will be frozen from now on as they have been done in the past......

Ziggy is a professional cat chaser and thought he wanted to be a nipper. A few pops to the snout is discouraging that thought.

I've never owned a computer until recently. My longest time friend Nancy gave me their old one. She got a hand me down from her work and handed her old one down to me. That's find and it's perfect for the few little things that I'm going to use it for at the house. Still don't plan on getting internet though.

The Redneck said I created a Monster. He's never used a computer much other than the few times he used my work laptop. After I got the PC cleaned up I loaded Solitaire. Ha, I knew he'd like it.

So when we found Mah Jong at the thrift store for a $1, he became addicted to playing. He finally said, you're probably going to have to uninstall that program!

Last Sunday morning when the Redneck went to start the coffee pot in the kitchen, we had the usual invasion into the bedroom.

Lucky went to his favorite spot. In a clothes basket, on top of clean clothes and started licking it.

The Redneck came back in from the kitchen and say him. He said "he's a real basket case"......

This is Momma's Cherry Pie or at least what is left of it. Somebody didn't wait for it to setup quite enough before they were cutting big hunks out of it. I made one at Thanksgiving and have been craving one since. I guess because I knew there was an extra pie shell in the freezer, it was all I could think of.

The JOKE. Momma's Cherry Pie because she only put one maraschino cherry on the top in the center of the pie.

Momma's Cherry Pie

3 oz. package of cream cheese
1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 package Dream Whip
1/2 cup milk
1 Pie Crust
1/2 cups chopped pecans

Whip Dream Whip as directed on the package with the milk, only omit vanilla extract and use the almond extract instead. Combine with the sifted confectioners sugar and then mix in the cream cheese. Beat until stiff.

To the pie crust, add 1/2 cups chopped pecans, prick several times and bake according to directions.

Fill the cooled backed pie crust with the mixture and refridgerate until cool.

Before serving, place 1 marachino cherry in the center of the pie!

The Weather Guessers

is right. Chip Allen at Virginia Through My Lens always call the weather people the weather guessers. So true. Sometimes they are right, a lot of times....not even close. If you've never been to Chip's blog, stop by and get ready to hoot. I tell him all the time that he's nutz!

I hate for my older horses to be out in bad weather so we try to keep them up if it's going to be storming, icy or snowing. But, after a day or two, Panama just has to get out or he's going to pout and quit eating. And of course he doesn't want to go out without his mares.

So on this day we had to take a chance that it was not going to rain all day long and we decided to let them out.

is all I can say. I'm beginning to wonder if Jolie is trying to break our hearts. That is indeed what would have happened if she had seriously hurt herself or broken something last Thursday.

I had let her out, I was coming thru the pasture gate and she came stampeding across the pasture. She thundered around the back of the barn and I heard "CRACK". She immediately trotted back around where I could see her and she was shaking her head. I tried to walk up to her but she was having none of that. But, she eventually put her head down and went to eating grass so I left her alone.

She ran into a 4 X 6 and snapped it off at the ground..... The only thing I can say again is Lucky....

This scrape over her eye and a dent in her shoulder were the only marks I could find on her. She could have easily broken her neck or shoulder plowing into the post.

This tub is for sale too. It's been in the shed if you couldn't tell.

I bought this when we were building the house. My screw up was not throwing a fit and having the plumbers remove the upstairs tub already installed and having them install this one. Cause as you can see, it's still not up there...........

So I've decided to sell it in hopes that someone will give it a good home. And no, I didn't take time to clean it up, cause it's only dirt and it will wash off. And until somebody is serious about it, we are not lugging it out of the shed. YES, this thing weighs a ton. Maybe not literally, but HEAVY is an understatement.

It's way cool too. See the oval in the square. Also, it has the 2 indented seats on the rim. I luv it.

Craigs List...Bah Humbug

We've been downsizing. The Redneck has a nice 10 foot enclosed trailer that he use to work out of. He built a shelf across the front and down the sides to hold his tools. Since he's not doing home rehabs anymore, he hasn't been pulling the trailer.

He cleaned it out for me and we packed it full of stuff that we decided to part with. At one time I thought I wanted to run a shop (thrift/small antique) when I retired. So we started buying some stuff to put into a shop at the small auctions that we were attending. I've since decided that I didn't want to be tied down someplace every day when I retire. I gathered up all of the stuff that we bought to sell, plus some other things and we put them into the trailer. We've sold out of it twice and gotten our money back and made a profit on some of the things.

But back to Craigs List. Some things are just too heavy to load up and tote around. This tub for instance. It was suppose to be put into our house....oh, several years ago. But, as you can see it's still on the porch, so I decided to sell it. I advertised it on Craigs List. Why can't people be honest. No I don't want your SCAM, certified check. No, I'm not withdrawing my ad so your shipper can pick it up. No, I'm not sending you my name, address, phone numbers, checking account, blood type, next born child or anything. IF YOU WANT IT, meet me and pay me CASH! MULAH, GREENBACKS, MONEY HONEY!!!! That's all I want.....

The inside of this tub is perfect. The outside needs sanding and painting.

Country's Porch House

Well of course Country had to get a porch house too to cover her old bed. I put her new bed in our bedroom cause she seems to really like it.

Country is 17 or very close to it. Until I can find my old date book, I won't know exactly when I got her. It's gotten to be a chore to get her out to the dog pen and put her in with Shy and Ringy. So I've been putting her on a line on the porch.

Until recently, I just left her in the house when we were gone. But, due to age, etc. she's been having a hard time holding on until we get home.

She's also hot natured (imagine that with all that fur...), so she starts whining if it's too hot in the house. She wants to go outside. So the line, keeps her on the porch where I can find her.

Splash has a new house on the porch. What I like about it, the wood was free! You ought to know by now how much I luv recycling things into stuff.

Hubby went to quote a job for the neighbor's son. He works part time at a horse farm not to far from us. He was in the process of cleaning out a shed and was just about to put a dozen or so long cedar planks into a fire. He asked if we wanted them and I said yes. Of course I already had a plan for them!

Cedar is such a beautiful wood. Hubby made this box house to cover Country's new porch dog bed. lol...it wasn't big enough for Country, so I had to buy her another one. Splash decided she wanted it and started staying on it every night. I asked the Redneck if he would build a house over it since it's turned very cold the past few days here in Mississippi.

Later on he's going to shoot clear on it and it will really show off that gorgeous wood!

On Sunday, November 20th, Country woke me up at 4 AM and I let her out. After waking me up again at 4:30 AM, I woke up the hubby and said "it's hot outside. Do you want to go bass fishing instead of hunting?"

So we got up and he charged the batteries on the boat. We went to Calling Panther and an hour or so later he pulled in the HAWG, TOAD or whatever you want to call her. She was ginormous. 11 lbs and 24 15/16 inches long. Yes, she's going on the wall. You just don't catch them that big everyday.

There was one thankful and happy redneck man that was glad his wife wanted to go fishing that day.

I forgot about these pictures. I took them in September at the State Horse Show. The Redneck and I were walking thru the parking lot of the Equine Center and this hawk landed on top of a horse trailer.

With the large number of trailers and trucks, the traffic, horses and all the people it surprised us that he landed. Maybe he was just curious at all the goings on.

Knock, knock, knocking on the feed room door

I try to let Jolie have some pasture time everyday. So, I either ride her and turn her out. Or just turn her straight out to the pasture so she can get some horse time.

When it's feeding time, we open the back barn gate and she comes a running. The big girl doesn't want to miss any of her groceries. She soon showed us her new trick if we are not standing in the hall with her feed bucket.

She opens the feed room and tries to help herself.

The STINKER, I mean Redneck caught the 1st 2 fish on our trip that I posted yesterday. Then I caught 2 in a row. Both larger than his fish. Then he caught a whopper. As I was netting it, I said "that one's bigger than the one's I caught". He said "GOOD!" with a large smirk on his face.

Naw, we aren't competitive or anything like that. I ended up catching one more. Making 3 fish for both of us. Mr. Smarty pants weighed them when we got home. Guess what? We both caught 12 lb's each.

So for a day that looked like it was going to be a bust, turned out to be pretty darn good.

p.s.: MSP's (Mr. Smarty Pant's said "I guess we'll have to call this one a draw"......

He wanted to go fishing

On Nov. 6th, the Redneck wanted to go fishing. So we went to Calling Panther for a while. It was cold, windy and at times it seemed to be whitecaping on the lake. The sun was shining and it did warm up some. I guess nobody else wanted to fish that day, cause we were the only ones on the lake.

Wildflowers and neighbors

I just luv this patch of yellow wildflowers coming up across the road from our driveway. And so did the bees! This was taken on Friday, Oct. 21st right after I got home from the Fall Fest. Friday's pictures were taken then too.

I drove up and the sun was shining on the blue morning glories and these yellow wildflowers. So after parking my car, I walked back down the driveway to get a picture.

lol....my neighbors down by the bridge saw me (somebody) in the road and came down to investigate. I'm glad they are noisy (not insulting them). But, noisy neighbors out in the country is a good thing.

She had a lot of her momma's quilting stuff inthe back. So I told them it they could stand the mess, to come see my mosaics. I think they were impressed!

My sister from Florida loves feathers. So when I saw some peacock feathers for sale at a garage sale for $1.00 each, I bought 2. I wanted to make her a mosaic and this is what I came up with.

I used flat marbles, different sizes. Back painted some white swirl glass with sparkley nail polish. There is also backpainted tumbled textured glass pieces in several colors. Blue willow plate pieces. Beads, some of hers and some of mine. And a couple of the earrings I bought at the Canton Flea Market.

On Friday Oct. 14th and Saturday Oct. 15th, South MS Horse Association had a huge horse show. It was an Open show. Meaning open to anyone. We also had it approved and combined with AQHA/APHA and PHBA (that's Quarter Horse, Paint Horse and Palomino Horse Associations).

Normally we have 54 total classes in a one day show. This was a 2 day show with 163 classes (not counting the grand and reserve halter classes). Running events were held on Friday and it was 1:30 AM before we left. The very last class was a $1000 added 4-D Barrel Run. I think there were 60 runners in that class alone.

Show started back up at 9:00 on Saturday morning. I rode Jolie in 6 SMHA events. Even though Jolie is a registered Quarter Horse, I have no desire to show registered shows at this time. They cost too much and generally the competition is too tuff for her to earn 1 or 1/2 point. Points are based on how many horses compete in a class. I heard a lady say that placing 3rd in a class with 10 horses, she earned 1/2 point. Another thing is that in addition to having an AQHA yearly membership, you have to have an Amatuer AQHA yearly membership to show those classes. See lots of money very fast.....no thanks.

I'll have to tell the placings later. I didn't keep up with them and now I don't remember how many were in each class or what we placed.

Stay away from MY Mares

Since we took part of Sonny and Sniff's pasture away to use on the hayfield, the Redneck has been letting them out in the big pasture several days a week.

Panama, my old gelding reminds them everyday that the mares are his mares. See how he keeps himself between them and the mares. There is also several chasing bouts during the day to remind them if they get too close to RedZilla and Gray Katie.

I went to the Canton Flea Market this year. Mainly to go to the $1 jewelry tents. That's right, to buy things to put on my mosaics!

I bought 54 items. Told my hubby I needed a full body XRAY after getting out of the first dollar tent. I took my life into my own hands by entering that tent with all those other women.

Thanks J.D. for the upclose and FREE parking space. As you can see in the 7th photo below, there was a sea of people there shopping. It was crowded!

Finished .....The Big One

This was my 1st mosaic project that I hinted about lately. I started him, then did several other mosaic's. I've been working on him a little along the way. Well, I finally finished him and here he is.

Neptune, King of the Sea. 2 foot wide by 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall.

The picture in the last photo is what I found on the internet. I enlarged Neptune and finished drawing him out to create a pattern for the project.

He is made of seed beads, colored glass pebbles, colored gravel-large and small, marbles, glass gems and cut stained glass.

The hubby worked a deal with the neighbors to round bale the hayfield ....he helped them put a covered deck on their Aunt's house. They cut, raked and baled the hayfield.

Even though there were only 2 bales, we were surprised. Mainly because they have the huge baler. The other round bales that we bought, we could roll up onto the trailer. hahaha, we couldn't budge the 2 bales they rolled. They were also surprised by the amount of grass the field produced in such a short time. Plus it's still sparse in a lot of places.

Even though the Redneck is very strong, we couldn't roll these bales onto the trailer. We finally had to pull them up with the other 4 wheeler.

We still might have to work out deals with the neighbors to cut it next year, but we are hoping to find somebody to do it on halves as square bales.

Also, with the heat, lack of rain and not getting this sprigged until July, we know this field is only going to get better and better!!!!

Making of a hayfield - part 2

The old grass was poisened. The hayfield was disc'd. It was dragged. Poisened again, soil tested and fertilized. Then it was fertizied by the co-op with lime (8 tons)....

Fertizilied again by 4 wheeler.

It was finally sprigged with 007 Horse Heaven Burmuda Grass.

Making of a hayfield - part 1

Sonny and Sniff use to have a bigger pasture.

Their passure was made smaller and a new fence was run to change the size of their pasture. A bulldozer came to clean up the old fence line. Several huge sweet gum trees were pushed over or cut down. Stumps were dug up. And a whole lot of clean up was done.

Prison Breaks and Fruit Basket Turnover

There was a jail break. Actually several of them. My guard beagles broke out of prison on Tuesday, Sept. 13th and were gone until late in the day on Sunday, Sept. 18th. My Man heard one of them on the creek and called for them. He saw Cody and Missy. Then he saw Patch. Patch was so tired he wouldn't get up and follow my hubby. Cody and Missy followed my hubby to the hayfield. He caught Cody and carried her to the dog pen. Then he got the 4 wheeler and went to get Patch while I caught Missy.

Then on Friday, Oct. 7th we got up and they had escaped again. Luckily they came home that night. Now new beagle wire has been run on part of their pen. Hopefully that will stop the break outs.

In the meantime, Mini Man and Cry Baby must have gotten in a god awful fight. Mini Man couldn't move his head and was screaching in pain. So we took him out of the pen with Cry Baby and put him in Alley's pen. He was in so much pain he would scream if she touched him. So, we ended up putting Alley in the my beagle pen (why not, they had escaped). So Alley is a guard beagle (not really, she's a mutt). And Mini Man is getting shots every 3 or 4 days and pain meds twice a day for his neck.

Then in the meantime, Whiney (Giraffe Dog) figured out she could climb out of the pen that she and Shy shared. So we moved her in with Smiley and put Ringy who was sharing a pen in with Shy.

Chasing my bowl

Country hasn't been bad and wasn't put into a corner for doings something wrong. I put her bowl in the corner so she wouldn't push it all around the kitchen.

Lots of time when I feed her, Redneck will say "she's chasing her bowl around the room".

Mosaic - Small Crosses

These are 2 small crosses that are 8 inches in length and 5 inches in width.

I wanted to give one to a sweet lady at work who has had a lot of woes lately. I asked her to come by my office and I told her to pick one. She said she couldn't make up her mind cause she liked them both. And she told me to pick for her. Nope, you have to pick. So she took the green one cause she said her sofa had green in it.

I bought a new toy. A rock tumbler. I used it to tumble glass pieces (clear plates with raised designs and a chipped up hob nail globe) that I broke. Real glass pieces will be very sharp when you break them. Tumbling them with coarse grit rounds them and will make them safe to handle.

On the green cross, the top piece of glass is back painted with a sparkly green translucent nail polish. The middle pieces are back painted with a metallic gold nail polish. This technique really adds a lot of POP to mosaics and sets them off.

Since most stained glass is smooth or slightly textured, breaking and tumbling pieces with designs gives your mosaics a raised texture effect.

The biggest, brightest rainbow we've ever seen was in the sky on Monday, Sept. 19th. I'm not sure if this was the same rainbow seen for miles, but another blogger (had pics on her blog) and said facebook was plastered with pics of one on the same day. That blogger lives in Madison and these pictures were taken in Crystal Springs.

The Redneck and I saw our neighbors a few weeks ago and we sat next to them at an antique auction. We started talking critters and she said she had not see Hobo in a while. I told her to describe him and she said a black tom cat with a big head. I said "funny looking flat ears". Yeah, that's him. I told her she hadn't seen him cause he's moved to our house.

As a matter of fact, these are the neighbors that saw me in the road the day I had let him loose after being neutered. They drove down to see if anything was wrong. I told them I had a tom cat neutered and let him out too soon. So if they saw a cat acting sick, he was okay.

The neighbor lady managed to snag him when he was an itty bitty kitty. She caught him at her husband's work and said she stuffed him into a box. She said she's never been able to get her hands on him again. That was several years ago. So Hobo is a Peepers now and I guess he's happy at our house.

I know this is not a very good picture. But, Peepers doesn't like the camera. So I was zoomed out and standing a ways from him when I took the pic.

Not exactly the card I'm putting on the back of the mosaics, but you get the drift. I've printed cards with a graphic and am adding them to each of the pieces.

Broken Bit, having 2 meanings - one for mosaics and one for horses (a broken bit is generally a snaffle bit)

BJ's Anchor

Actually my 1st mosaic project is still a work in progress. It's huge and I'm working on it a little at a time. I sent my sister BJ a picture of the project and she sent me back a message that it couldn't be mine because it was somewhat nautical in nature. And she was sure I was making it for her.... I sent her back a message that I was glad she liked it! Don't worry, I'll share it with you as soon as I'm finished.

But, in the meantime, the Redneck cut out this anchor for me. He also helped by cutting out the 2 round pieces. They were the bottoms of bowls. And in order to cut them out without breaking them, he used his tile saw. The dolphins are from a Sea World plate that I nipped. The ocean scene is a mug and I found out that mugs like to shatter.

Moon, stars and golden anchors are all buttons. Most of the glass is white/clear swirled. I painted the board blue so that it would show blue thru the glass instead of wood. The other gray glass is iridescent and shimmery.

Beads scattered thru the piece and on the arrows to resemble barnacles. Handmade beaded pieces to resemble a ship's wheel, a life preserver and a compass. Ending up with Port on the Left and Starboard on the Right.

My Man told me to tell her if she didn't like it that he'd take it. LOL...I would make him one, but I have something else in mind for him!

Cha Ching - Fantastic Garage Sale Find

I'll take another man's junk like this any time. I found this at a multi family garage sale in Brookhaven on Saturday, Sept. 17th.

We had a South MS Horse Association board meeting at 11 AM. I left the house early to hit an Estate Sale in Wesson. I drove thru the small town and went to a small garage sale and a Thrift Store. At the Estate Sale, I bought 2 necklaces for $2 each and a charm bracelet for $3. At the Thrift Store I got 4 plates for $2. And I didn't find anything at the small garage sale.

So I headed on to Brookhaven to hit the Thrift Store there. I saw the sign for a garage sale and decided to check it out. And BOY am I glad, cause I saw this beautiful painting lurking under a table. SNATCH and I got it for $5!!!

Well, not yet. But, I will be getting one. They didn't give out the silver plates in the Halter Stallion class at the show. On some of the classes they gave a certificate good for a silver plate. They do that because some of them don't fill up or either they get a lot of scratches before them. State places 10 horses. So, they gave out certificates and Ziggy will get his 8th place plate for Halter Stallions soon.

Ziggy's class was Saturday, Sept. 10th at 8 AM. We hauled him up and then took him home. We didn't want Ziggy or Jolie to have to stand up in the show stall's all day. So we went home and I banded her mane, gave her a quick bath and we went back to the Equine Center. And we waited, waited and waited some more for her Hunter Under Saddle class.

LOL...I had to come back in and edit this post. Good thing that I print them out and take them home for the Redneck to read. He let me know that Ziggy was flashing everyone with his "pencil" in the bottom picture. So I had to come back to the post and crop the picture. Sure don't want to be accused of posting horsey porn on my blog.
